In the range of consequences that arise from our relationship with technology there is a key that concerns our day to day: we are already cyborgs, hybrids between organism and machine. How many people do we know who are not connected? Although reality does not correspond to the romanticized image of science fiction movies, we already depend on mobile phones, computers, wireless interconnection networks. But how can we use technology as a simple tool, instead of letting technology trap us?
This talk raises the need to rethink our relationship with the artificial intelligences that surround us and to propose mechanisms to design less intrusive technologies. It will be, among others, the concept of Calm Technology coined by Amber Case, whose objective is that the technology attract the user’s attention in a fluid way only when necessary, while remaining on the periphery the rest of the time.

Mark Bünger

He has spent his career at the intersection of technology, innovation, and strategy at places like Accenture and Forrester, as well as a few startups and two biotech research labs at UCSF. Most recently he was VP of Research at Lux Research, where they covered the span of deep tech from AI and renewable energy to nanomaterials and synthetic biology. At InnovationLab, he works with clients on moonshot-scale projects and beyond. He also teaches innovation to MBA students at Presidio Graduate School, and acts as the Silicon Valley hub ambassador for Hello Tomorrow.

Amber Case
Member of the research department Institute for the Future , USA
Amber Case studies the interaction between humans and computers and how our relationship with information is changing the way cultures think, act and understand the world. She's an internationally recognized lawyer and spokesperson, researcher at the Institute for the Future and author of Calm Technology and Designing With Sound. She spent two years as a member of MIT's Center for Civic Media and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & amp; Society of Harvard. Outstanding as one of the 30 most influential women under 30 in technology by Inc. Magazine, she was named an emerging explorer by National Geographic in 2012 and received the Claude Shannon Innovation Award from Bell Labs. Ulises Cortes
Professor BSC-UPC , Spain
Ulises Cortés is a Full-Professor and Researcher of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He is Scientific Coordinator of the High-Performance Artificial Intelligence group at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. His current focus is on several areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) including knowledge acquisition for and concept formation in knowledge-based systems as well as on Machine Learning and in autonomous intelligent agents. Many of his contributions have been applied in real life scenarios and industry. Since 1991 he advised 22 PhD Theses, two of them have been awarded the European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence Board AI Dissertation Award in 2003 and 2010, and 20+ Master Theses in the field of AI and has 50+ articles in indexed international journals and 170 papers in international Conferences and Workshops.
Pilar Dellunde
Professor - Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
Pilar Dellunde Clavé (Barcelona, 1965), Professor of Logic at the Philosophy Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), member of the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathermatics, and adjunct Scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute IIIA-CSIC since 2001. From 1999 to 2001, she was working as a postdoctoral researcher in the Équipe de Logique Mathématique, CNRS (Université Paris-7). From 2012 to 2016, she was Vice-chancellor for Research, and Director of the Doctoral School of the UAB. Recently, she has done a Research Stay of one year in the group Algorithmic Decision Theory, Institute Data61 of the University UNSW of Sydney, Australia. At present she is the principal investigator of the RECERCAIXA 2018 project APPhil (jointly with Dr. Nardine Osman), and Local Coordinator of the European Project SYSMICS.

Carolina Ciuti is an art historian and curator. She holds a BA in History of Art from the University of Florence and a MA in Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London. Since June 2017 she is the artistic director of LOOP Barcelona, where she started working in 2015 as part of the curatorial team. Pior, she has worked as Assistant to the Director at the Villa Lena art residency in Italy, while collaborating in diverse curatorial projects with international artists. She has curated and edited the publications I Have A Friend Who Knows Someone Who Bought a Video Once (LOOP Barcelona, Mousse Publishing, 2016) and Before the name: a book on an intinerant performance project (RAM Editions, June 2018), and collaborated to the the editing process of Video Writings by Artists (1970 – 1990) (ed.Eugeni Bonet, LOOP Barcelona, Mousse Publishing, 2017). Since September 2015, she writes extensively for Instituto Italiano Edizioni ATLAS, an italian publishing house specialising in the education sector. In November 2017 she co-founded the art collective CRiB with the aim of developing hybrid projects between visual arts, performance and theatre.
