The way of understanding and designing urban space has changed with the development of technology. Cities are great generators and data continents, but these are not just another infrastructure; they are also a tool that defines urban evolution itself. The model and goal to date: Smart cities. Urban capacities for sustainability, economic development or “efficiency” are some of the indicators that define them.
But how are these goals integrated into the citizen social pact? Are we measuring the success of “efficiency” in relation to improving the quality of life of citizens? Can the digital layer influence factors such as social justice and health in our cities beyond anticipating traffic jams, avoiding energy waste or reducing pollution? This talk reflects on the urbanism of cities from its digital layer and its possibilities and limitations within the framework of a social pact.
